Harold F. Liljenquist

Chubbuck - Harold F. Liljenquist, 89, formerly of McCammon and Inkom and resident of Chubbuck for many years passed away Friday, February 11, 2011 at a local rehab and care center following an extended illness.

He was born January 8, 1922 in McCammon, Idaho, a son of Warren and Lena Ward Liljenquist.

He attended schools in McCammon and then went to work for the Union Pacific Railroad for a short time prior to enlisting in the U.S. Army. He came home on leave during training and on March 26, 1943, he married Verda May Lish in McCammon. Their marriage was later solemnized in the Idaho Falls Temple. He then was sent to Europe where he served during World War II until the war was over in 1945. Following his return from the war, he found the railroad had held his job so he again went to work for the Union Pacific as a carman and retired in 1982 after nearly 40 years of service. He was a member of the L.D.S. Church.

He greatly enjoyed fishing (and tied his own flies), watching sports on TV or listening to games on the radio. He also enjoyed music and participated in square dancing in the area for many years.

His beloved wife Verda passed away on July 10, 1984. On April 27, 1985, he married Ina G. Avery in Idaho Falls, Idaho. They were friends from their square dancing years. Harold and Ina have enjoyed over 25 years together. He will be greatly missed by his family and friends.

Survivors include his wife Ina G. Avery Liljenquist of Chubbuck, Idaho; 5 sons, Gene (Lynn) Liljenquist, Darwin (Pamela) Liljenquist, Dana (Floydene) Liljenquist all of Pocatello, Idaho; Jody Liljenquist, Idaho Falls, Idaho; Cody (Geri) Liljenquist, Burley, Idaho; 4 step-sons, Ray (Jenny) Avery, Mesa, Arizona; Lonnie (Lynn Marie) Avery, Seattle, WA.; Craig (Janet) Avery, Kuna, Idaho; Brent Avery, Pocatello, Idaho; 2 step-daughters, Diana (Keith) Johnson, Mt. Home, Idaho; Kara Lee (Ben) Roper, Melba, Idaho; a brother, Eric Liljenquist, Salem, Oregon; 4 sisters, Anna Thyberg, Pocatello, Idaho; Melba Watson, Rexburg, Idaho; Leona (Tom) Jenkins, Belgrade, Montana; Sonna (Dean) Davis, Kennewick, WA.; 20 grandchildren, 30 great-grandchildren, 1 great-great grandson. He was preceded in death by his parents, first wife Verda, 2 brothers and 1 sister.

Family funeral services will be held Wednesday, February 16, 2011 at 1:00 p.m. at Manning-Wheatley Funeral Chapel, 510 N. 12th Ave. with Bishop Carl B. Holm, of the Pocatello 41st Ward officiating. Interment will be in the Mountainview Cemetery with military rites provided by the Pocatello Veterans Honor Guard. The family will receive friends on Tuesday evening from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at Manning-Wheatley Funeral Chapel, 510 N. 12th Ave. and on Wednesday from 12:00 to 12:45 p.m. prior to services. Funeral arrangements are under the care of Manning-Wheatley Funeral Chapel.
