Pocatello - Henry Fendon Jackson, 83, lifelong resident of Tyhee and Pocatello passed away Monday evening March 24, 2008 at Portneuf Medical Center Heart and Vascular Unit following an extended illness. He was born May 11, 1924 in Pocatello a son of George Henry and Eleda Ellis Jackson.
He attended schools in Tyhee, Irving Jr. High and graduated form Pocatello High School. He was later employed by the Union Pacific Railroad in the telegraph office. He joined the U.S. Navy and took basic training at Farragut Naval Training Center in Northern Idaho. He was then transferred to California. He became a telegraph operator and was stationed in the South Pacific during WWII.
He met his sweetheart Helen Frazier, when he returned on leave. She was working at the railroad at his former job. After a courtship and Fendon mustered out of the Navy, they were married June 1, 1946 in Pocatello, Idaho. Their marriage was later solemnized in the Idaho Falls Temple. They would have celebrated their 62 years together on June 1, 2008.
Fendon was a master of all trades. He was the meat manager at Frazier's market for 25 years. He and Helen started Jackson's Ceramics and he poured ceramics and porcelain. He loved doing this and making special "Greenware" for everyone. He had many hobbies. He played the organ and also did computer building with Jackson Enterprise's.
He was a member of the L.D.S. Church and had served in many positions. He served as a counselor in the Elders Quorum, Ward Clerk, Bishop's Counselor, Bishop, Stake Clerk and home teacher. He will be greatly missed by all who knew him.
He is survived by his wife, Helen Jackson, Pocatello; 2 sons, Colin (Linda) Jackson, Pocatello; Kim (Becky) Jackson, Pocatello; son-in-law, Norman Rhodehouse, Ammon, Idaho; 2 brothers, Bob (Sharon) Jackson, Pocatello; Verlon (Berniece) Jackson, Pocatello; sister, Belva (Gary) Faris, Boise, Idaho and sister-in-law, Martha Lu Jackson, Pocatello; a dear friend, Joan Sayer, Pocatello; his puppies, Toy and GG, parrot, Olive and Little Bird. 17 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, 2 daughters, Marilyn King, Shawna Rhodehouse, a grandson, Adrian, a brother, Velbert Jackson.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, March 29, 2008 at 12 noon at the L.D.S. Central Stake Center (225 Oakwood Dr.) with Bishop Ryan Hancock, of the Foothill Ward officiating. Interment will be in the Mountainview Cemetery. The family will receive friends on Saturday from 10:30 a.m. to 11:45 a.m. at the church. Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Manning-Wheatley Funeral Chapel, 510 N. 12th Ave.
