Pocatello- Gwen Davis Jackson Woodson, our loving mother, passed away on October 16, 2010 in Pocatello, Idaho.
She was born September 30, 1922 in Downey, Idaho to Reynold and Leona Thompson Davis. She graduated from Downey High School, Downey, Idaho in 1940 and worked hard on her family's ranch. She graduated from LDS Business College, in Salt Lake City, Utah. She worked at Guarantee Federal Savings and Loan in Pocatello.
During WWII, she was a USO volunteer who went on board the troop trains to serve food and drink to the soldiers on their way to the war. She received many proposals of marriage on those trains.
She married John Merlin Jackson in 1947 and they were blessed with three children. She worked in the Transportation business at Acme Fast Freight and Craven Warehouses in Pocatello, Idaho. John and Gwen were divorced in 1976. Later, she met and married Stanley T. Woodson. She obtained a Real Estate Agent license in Connecticut and Washington. She also worked at Boise Cascade in their Boise Transportation department.
Gwen enjoyed her home and family, always making sure that everything was immaculate. She invented Freeze Dried Laundry (hanging the washing on the clothes line in subzero weather). She loved to sing, dance, and traveling around the world. She was active in the Democratic Party, was a Precinct Committee Chairperson and supported Senator Frank Church and Governor Cecil Andrus campaigns. She was member of the Ada County Highway Committee.
Gwen is survived by 3 children, Debra (Herb/Andy) Anderson, Terri (Jeff) Copeland and Kip (Kauana) Jackson; 7 grandchildren and 2 great grandchildren; sisters, Lois Anderson and Cherol (Clifford) Abbott; brothers, Van (Lois), Max (Cecily), Perry and Clark (Marci) Davis; Preceded in death by her sister, Yvonne and her brothers, Emerson, and Benny Davis.
She was honest and hard working, taught her kids tolerance, a joy to her family and friends. Her favorite saying was "Take names and kick butt".
Graveside services will be held Monday, Oct. 18, 2010 at 3:00 p.m. at Downey Cemetery, Downey, Idaho. The family requests that any donations be made to The Gables Assisted Living Alumni Fund c/o Angie Obray, P.O. Box 656, 2805 S. Grant, Pocatello, Idaho 83204
Funeral arrangements are under the care of Manning-Wheatley Funeral Chapel, 510 N. 12th Ave.
