Gordon D. Hudson

Gordon DeVere Hudson, 89, passed away at home in Pocatello, Idaho, on September 20, 2021. His final days were spent surrounded by family. Gordon was born on September 19, 1932, to William Henry and Arlene Ricks Hudson in Jarbidge, Nevada.

Gordon attended most of his school years in Pocatello along with his lifelong friend Dale Jones, and graduated from Pocatello High School in 1950. Gordon joined the Navy after high school and served as an electrician’s mate on the Princeton aircraft carrier during the Korean War.  After leaving the Navy, Gordon returned to Pocatello and worked as a bricklayer for his dad until he was fortunate to get an electrical apprenticeship. Gordon worked as an electrician for Barlow’s, Inc., for many years and also had his own Electrical Contracting Business.

Gordon married Merle Elaine Grimmett in Blackfoot, Idaho, on July 1, 1955. They were later sealed in the Idaho Falls Idaho Temple on September 13, 1969. Gordon and Elaine spent most of their married life in Pocatello where they raised their five children. At one point, they moved their young family to a home on Pocatello Creek Road, mostly because of Gordon’s love for horses. He belonged to a riding club for a time. He also enjoyed bowling on a bowling league, golfing in his retirement years, and hunting, fishing and camping for decades with friends and family. Grandkids have many cherished memories camping and sitting around the campfire with Grandpa.  Gordon passed on his love of hunting to his three sons, many grandsons, and even a few granddaughters. In recent years, Gordon and Elaine enjoyed going on road trips with their friends Elmo and Kathy.

Gordon was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He served many years in the Boy Scouts. In his later years, he loved serving as a temple worker with Elaine in the Idaho Falls Idaho Temple. Gordon served with the bishopric in a special calling visiting members of the ward and enjoyed teaching the High Priest group.

Gordon is preceded in death by his parents, his brother Gaylord, his sister Donna, and his daughter Melanie. Gordon is survived by his beloved wife Elaine, three sons, Bill (Mary Ann), Kelly (Kathie), Craig (Jill), and daughter Cecelia. Gordon was blessed with 19 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren, with one on the way.
