Glenna B. Roberts, 92, passed away August 16, 2015 in Clearfield, Utah.
Glenna Eurene Boyes was born April 13, 1923 in the family home on Lander Street in Pocatello, Idaho, the third of four children of George Martin and Eurene Eliza Perry Boyes.
She attended school in Pocatello, graduating from Pocatello High School in 1940. After graduation, she attended school in Salt Lake City, returning to Pocatello to work until she joined the military in 1944. She was a WAVE (Seaman First Class) and served in the New York and Seattle areas.
After she returned from her military service, she married "the boy next door," Harold Delbert Roberts, who had recently returned from his own service overseas.
They were married August 11, 1946 in Pocatello, Idaho, and sealed in the Idaho Falls Temple on January 13, 1959. Harold preceded Glenna in death on May 5, 2008.
They built a home on Walnut Street in Pocatello, where Glenna lived until October 2014, when she moved to Utah to be closer to children. She lived independently until her death.
While Harold worked long hours to support the family, Glenna made every dollar stretch as a mother, homemaker, expert seamstress, and gardener. She worked all year sewing for her family, making everything from Prom dresses to pajamas. Every Easter she made beautiful outfits for all of her children. She also made quilts, bedding, slipcovers, curtains, and drapes. Each of her 20 grandchildren received a handmade quilt at birth.
She raised a large garden each year, then canned and dried fruits and vegetables to last until the next summer. She had beautiful roses and lilacs. The only blemish in her yard was the constantly worn spots under the swings where children and grandchildren and their friends played.
She spent her later years as a volunteer at the Bannock County Museum, serving in the Idaho Falls LDS Temple, and following the BYU football team as far as Australia on trips with good friends.
Glenna is survived by one son and four daughters: H. Michael (DeDee) Roberts, Sheridan, WY; Renee Roberts-Baker, Farr West, UT; Roxanne (Douglas) Dibb, St. George, UT; Denise (David) Johnsen, Kaysville, UT; and Diane (Larry) Knight, Orem, UT; 20 grandchildren and 55 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her beloved Harold, daughter Nancy, and two great-grandchildren.
There will be no public viewing. Graveside and Veterans' honors will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, August 19, 2015 at Restlawn Memorial Gardens in Pocatello, ID.
Friends may join the family for a luncheon at 12:30 at the LDS chapel at the corner of Jefferson and Walnut streets. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in her honor to the Bannock County Museum, 3000 Avenue of the Chiefs, Pocatello, Idaho, 83204. Funeral services are under the care of Manning-Wheatley Funeral Chapel, 510 N. 12th Ave.
