Gerald "Jerry" William Dunn passed away peacefully surrounded by his family members on Sunday, April 21, 2013 after a valiant battle with cancer. Jerry was born October 29, 1934 in Montpelier, Idaho to Ruby Dayton and Loren Cecil Dunn.
Jerry graduated from Inkom High School. He attended Idaho State University before serving an honorable mission for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints to the Eastern States Mission in New York State. His love for missionary work never ceased, and he touched many lives.
Jerry was sealed to his eternal sweetheart Joyce Ann Elwell on April 11, 1958 in the Idaho Falls LDS Temple. Jerry served in the United States Army and was deployed to Germany three weeks after their marriage. He returned in 1959.
They resided in McCammon, Idaho and were blessed with 5 children, 4 daughters and 1 son. Jerry retired from Ash Grove Cement Plant in Inkom, Idaho after 35 years. He completed his career as the Plant Superintendent.
Jerry found great joy spending time with his wife and family and made many memories traveling to 35 states, Canada and Alaska several times. Jerry loved the Lord's beautiful creations and was an avid hunter and fisherman. He took the time to camp, fish, hunt and enjoy his family. He held fond memories of hunting and fishing with his father, his brother Loren, his children and grandchildren.
He was an active member of the community and loved the youth. He volunteered many hours of service taking scouts on pack trips, coaching youth basketball and softball, and was a LOYAL Marsh Valley Eagles fan! His influence touched many lives, and he will always be remembered as "Grandpa Dunn".
Jerry was an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints and possessed an unwavering testimony of his Savior Jesus Christ. His life was an example of service and obedience. He served the Lord in many different callings including Bishop, Counselor, and various other teaching positions. He was eager to share his knowledge of the gospel and utilized this knowledge to be a loving husband, father, and grandfather. He and his wife Joyce are exceptional parents and provided a home filled with love, laughter, and kindness. Their example and solid testimonies have proven to be a rock for their family and friends.
Jerry's posterity includes 20 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren who will forever remember his infectious smile,protective arms and his motto, "It's a good life if you don't weaken". Jerry is survived by his loving wife Joyce and his five children: Julie (Bart) Taylor, Etna, Wyoming; Tamera (James) Thompson, McCammon, Idaho; Valerie (Richard) Tillotson, Mackay, Idaho; Amy (Mike) Myler, Moreland, Idaho; and Jerry (Jill) Dunn, McCammon, Idaho. His siblings: Loren (Roberta) Dunn, McCammon; Donna Green, Pocatello; Carol (James) Guthrie, Inkom; and Janie (Lynn) Harris, Inkom.
He was preceded in death by his parents and his brother-in-law, Donald Green.
Funeral services will be held on Thursday, April 25, 2013, at 11:00 a.m. at the McCammon Idaho Stake Center with Bishop Greg Smedley conducting. A viewing will be held at the McCammon Stake Center the evening of Wednesday, April 24th from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. and on Thursday , April 25th from 9:45 to 10:45 a.m. Interment will be in the Norton Cemetery in McCammon with Military Rites provided by the Pocatello Veterans Honor Guard.
