George DeRay Egley

Lava Hot Springs-George DeRay Egley, 70, longtime resident of Lava Hot Springs, Idaho passed away Thursday, Sept. 8, 2011 at his home following a courageous battle with cancer.

He was born October 30, 1940, the son of George Roger and Della Bennett Egley in Lava Hot Springs, Idaho.

He attended schools in Lava Hot Springs and graduated from Marsh Valley High School. He served two years in the United States Army, stationed in California and Texas.

He married Carolyn Hall on January 4, 1969 in McCammon, Idaho. Their marriage was later solemnized in the Logan, Utah L.D.S Temple on Feb. 26, 2011.

He had a great love for horses and liked taking horse rides. He also trained and slowed horses. He was a member of the L.D.S. Church. He greatly enjoyed spending time with his family. He will be greatly missed by his family and friends.

George is survived by his loving wife, Carolyn Egley, Lava Hot Springs; one son, Darwin (Destiny) Egley, Lava Hot Springs; one daughter, Dixie Spitale, Chubbuck; one sister, Linda (Steven) Stephenson, Farmington, New Mexico; three grandchildren, Dominic, Dalton, Erin. He was preceded in death by his parents.

Funeral services will be held Tuesday, Sept. 13, 2011 at 12 noon at the Lava Hot Springs L.D.S. Chapel with Bishop Chaud Spitzer officiating. The family will receive friends Monday, Sept. 12, from 3:00 to 5:00 p.m. at the Lava Hot Springs L.D.S. Chapel and on Tuesday from 10:30 a.m. to 11:45 a.m. at the church.

Interment will be in the Norton Cemetery, McCammon, Idaho, with military rites by the Downey American Legion Post 21 and the Idaho Honor Guard. Funeral arrangements are under the care of Manning-Wheatley Funeral Chapel, 510 N. 12th Ave.
