Gary Claud Laws, 80, of Chubbuck, passed away peacefully Saturday, October 31, 2009 at a local care center following an extended illness. He was born August 10, 1929 in Fort Smith, Arkansas, a son of Claude and Evelyn Delores Espy Laws.
He attended schools in Fort Smith, Arkansas and graduated from Fort Smith High School. Shortly following graduation from high school, he joined the U.S. Navy and was stationed aboard the USS Rendova aircraft carrier in the Pacific.
Following his discharge from the Navy, he returned to Fort Smith where he worked for several different gas stations where he began working in the auto glass replacement and repair trade.
On October 18, 1952, he married June Falleur in Waldron, Arkansas. He moved his family to Denver, Colorado for two years where he worked in the auto glass trade. They moved back to Fort Smith for a short time and then in 1962 they moved to Orange Co., California where he lived for 15 years also working in the auto glass business. In 1977, he moved his family to Pocatello, Idaho, so his children would be raised in a better environment. He worked for Ostler Glass (later John's Glass) until he retired. He also worked a few years for Harten Exteriors. He liked hunting, fishing, camping and spending time with his family. He was a member of The Catholic Church and attended St. Paul's Catholic Chapel in Chubbuck.
He is survived by his loving wife, June F. Laws, Chubbuck, Idaho; 3 sons, Rick Laws, Chubbuck, Idaho; Dan Laws, Upland, California; Jeffrey (Cindy) Laws, Twin Falls, Idaho; a daughter, Catherine Laws, Chubbuck, Idaho; 2 grandchildren, Emily and Matthew Laws, Twin Falls, Idaho. He was preceded in death by his parents and a daughter, Cindy.
Funeral services will be held Thursday, Nov. 5, 2009 at 11:00 a.m. at St. Anthony Holy Spirit Catholic Church. There will be a Vigil service Wednesday evening, Nov. 4, 2009, 6:00 p.m. at Manning-Wheatley Funeral Chapel, 510 N. 12th Ave. with the family receiving friends following services until 7:30 p.m. Interment will be in Restlawn Memorial Gardens with military rites provided by the Pocatello Veterans Honor Guard. Funeral arrangements are under the care of Manning-Wheatley Funeral Chapel.
