Gary Lee Huff, age 67, passed away in Pocatello, Idaho, on March 8, 2023.
Gary was born in Ontario, Oregon on March 2, 1956 to Elmer Ray Huff and Eleanor May Singer Huff. He was the seventh of seven children. He had four brothers and two sisters. Gary grew up in New Plymouth, Idaho and graduated from New Plymouth High School in 1974. He served a two-year mission for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in the Perth, Australia Mission. He returned home and married Joleen Gurney. Their two children, Jodi and Matthew, were born. He then attended Utah State University to receive his Bachelor's Degree in Secondary Education.
One week prior to graduation he was offered a job at Teton Junior High where his teaching career began. He loved spending any extra time coaching Boys Basketball and Baseball. Two more daughters were welcomed to this earth, Katie and Sarah. Gary continued teaching while raising their children. He taught in Nampa, Glenns Ferry, and West Jefferson. Gary loved teaching and coaching and continued to do so for 24 years. In 2014 he met and married his sweetheart Elaine, who he cherished his time with.
Gary always strived to follow the example of Jesus Christ by serving others. He spent many hours serving in various callings for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. Gary touched many lives through his powerful gifts of kindness, gentleness, and lovingness. He had a way of making those around him feel cared for and loved. Gary cherished meeting new people and serving others anyway he could. One thing he enjoyed was cutting and hauling wood for all those around him for many years.
Gary had many hobbies. He fueled his passion for life through physical and outdoor activities. He enjoyed fishing, trapping, hunting, camping, but most importantly spending time with family. Gary loved sharing trapping tricks with those he cared for. He loved hunting with his son Matt each fall. Gary also had a passion for watching his grandkids do the things they enjoyed.
Gary’s life was exemplified by his commitment to our Savior and the gospel. He loved spending time studying scriptures, attending the temple, and strengthening his relationship with our Savior. He shared his testimony of the gospel any chance he got. He loved the gospel and was a devoted member his entire life. His love of the Savior was deeply rooted from his mother during the early years of his life.
Gary's passing is felt deeply by his family and all those who knew him. His family takes great comfort in knowing that he is no longer bound by this world and is free of pain and suffering. They will miss his soft spoken and gentle care that he gave to all those he loved.
Gary is survived by his wife Elaine, and his children -- Jodi (Travis) Laws of Malta, Idaho, Matthew (Serena) Huff of Meridian, Idaho, Katie (Sylvester) Juarez of Meridian, Idaho, Sarah (Matthew) Hinton of Burley, Idaho, as well as his stepchildren -- Phil (Kara) Foster of Lewiston, Utah, Melissa (Cody) Thompson of Soda Springs, Idaho, Kristi (Matt) Peck of Soda Springs, Idaho, and Todd (Ashleigh) Foster of Cove, Utah; his 26 grandchildren, 2 Great-Grandchildren, his siblings Joyce, Arlene, and Elroy, mother in-law Donna Thompson, and a large extended family of in-laws, cousins, aunts, and uncles.
Gary is preceded in death by his parents Elmer and Eleanor Huff, his siblings Leray, Leroy, and Dennis.
The family would like to express their sincere gratitude to all those who have given their love, support, and friendship to them. While they are heartbroken, they have faith in Heavenly Father's plan and rely on his promises that all things will be made well and whole.
In lieu of flowers donations will be received at the funeral home.
