F. Archer "John" Thompson III Pocatello - F. Archer "John" Thompson III, 70, of Pocatello, and former owner of Midas Muffler Shop in Pocatello, passed away Saturday, July 14, 2007 at Portneuf Medical Center. He was born February 27, 1937 in Bridgeport, Connecticut a son of F. Archer Thompson II and Helen M. Brewer. He grew up in Detroit, Michigan and moved to Watsonville, California during his sophomore year of high school. He served in the United States Army. He met and dated Connie May Smith and they were married August 20, 1955. To this union were born three sons, Ricky Allen Thompson, one year later was F. Archer Thompson IV, In 1960 their last son Robert Earl Thompson, was born. In 1955 they moved to San Jose, California where John managed several Midas Muffler Shops. In 1977 John and Connie moved to Pocatello, Idaho where John was the owner/operator of the Midas Muffler Shop on the corner of 4th and Clark St. John retired in 1991 due to his health. The last few years he spent a lot of time at their property at Blackfoot Reservoir helping raise his grandkids and great-grandkids. He was very much loved by all who knew him and will be greatly missed. John always gave everyone a "Fair Shake". He is survived by his wife of 52 years, Connie Thompson, Pocatello; three sons, Ricky and Sonny, both of Pocatello and Bob of Ketchum, Idaho; a sister Shirley (Jim) Sasser, Alabama. Funeral services will be held Wednesday, July 18, 2007 at 1:00 p.m. at Manning-Wheatley Funeral Chapel, 510 N. 12th Ave. Interment will be in the Mountainview Cemetery with Military Rites provided by the Pocatello Veterans Honor Guard. The family will receive friends on Wednesday one prior to services at Manning-Wheatley Funeral Chapel.
