Evelyn Faye Harris

Evelyn Faye Wengreen Harris, 95, who had been residing in Lindon, Utah, with her son, Alan, passed away Monday, April 16, 2018, following a stroke. She was born at Arimo, Idaho, Bannock County, March 16, 1923, the sixth of ten children of Carl Arthur Wengreen and Elva Rosella Brown Wengreen.

During the Great Depression, her family moved to San Bernardino, California, where Evelyn attended the first grade. Afterward, she received the remainder of her schooling in McCammon, Idaho. She was the eighth-grade princess for the homecoming dance, and then she served as president of the sophomore class at McCammon High School. She also served as Cheer Queen her sophomore and junior years. It was at high school she met and fell in love with the Student Body President, and a star basketball and football player. His name was Reed Ingval Harris, and they married 23 December 1940, in Idaho Falls, Idaho. Later, after Reed’s service in the U. S. Army during World War II, they had their marriage solemnized in the Idaho Falls LDS Temple.

They were the parents of four children, Darryl Wayne, Janet Renae, Alan Reed, and Lyla Gene.

Except for a brief time right after their marriage, Reed and Evelyn lived in McCammon until 1957 when they purchased a farm just a few miles away in Arimo, Idaho, and their children were graduated from Marsh Valley High School. After their children left home, they lived for a few years in Pocatello, where Reed had a contracting business and built homes. After retirement, they moved back to McCammon. Following Reed’s death in 1997, Evelyn returned to Pocatello to live.

Evelyn was an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and served as Relief Society President, Mutual President, Primary President and teacher. After her husband’s death in 1997, she traveled extensively, often with her daughters and sons. Over the years she was an avid gardener and took great pride in her yard. At her last residence in Pocatello, she won an award for having the “best” yard in her neighborhood.

Evelyn is survived by a brother, Earl, of Orem, Utah, two sons, Darryl Wayne (Christine) of Idaho Falls, and Alan, Lindon, Utah; along with 13 grandchildren, 37 great-grandchildren, and 11 great-great grandchildren.

A funeral service to honor her life will be held Saturday, April 28, 2018 at the McCammon LDS Ward, at 12 noon. Prior to the service, a viewing will be held beginning at 10 a.m.  Interment will be in the Norton Cemetery
