Ellen Anderson was born in Pocatello, Idaho on October 7, 1950 to Ernest and Violet Chase, coming in as the baby of the family. Her parents owned and operated the Pocatello Greenhouse, so she grew up with a strong work ethic and a love of all plants and flowers. She returned to the loving arms of her Heavenly Father on September 25, 2019.
Ellen attended schools in Pocatello, graduating from Highland High School in 1968. It was during high school that she met her husband, Karl Anderson. They were married for time and all eternity on July 25, 1968 in the Idaho Falls LDS Temple. Karl and Ellen went on to build a life that included a big dairy goat farm, several of their own businesses, and Ellen’s biggest pride and joy, their family.
Ellen is the mother of seven children, 29 grandchildren, 14 great grandchildren and 2 more on the way. Ellen loved many children, not just her own. She worked as an aide at Tyhee Elementary for several years, served as the leader of the Winners Way 4-H club for many years, and always has an open spot in her home for any other child that needed a place to stay.
Ellen had a strong love for her Heavenly Father and was an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, where she served in many callings over the years. Ellen was a master homemaker, baking the absolute best and most unique breads and treats, and creating the most fun and outlandish sewing and crocheted gifts to give to her family every Christmas.
Ellen is survived by her husband Karl, daughter Kimberli (Troy) Nalley, daughter Nichole (Gary) Owens, son Brett (Chris) Anderson, son Bart (Lorelle) Anderson, son Kaleb (Bobbi) Anderson, son Joshua (Holly) Anderson, daughter Kalyn Anderson, as well as her grandchildren and great grandchildren. She is also survived by her siblings Dennis (Karen) Chase, Richard (Carol) Chase, Linda (Gerald) Gonsalves, Robert (Helen) Chase, and James Chase, as well as many in-laws, nieces, nephews, and cousins. She is preceded in death by her parents, Ernest and Violet Chase, her in-laws Elwood Anderson and Hugh and Alice Hatch, and one granddaughter.
Services for Ellen will be limited, as it was her wish to not have a “sad, stuffy funeral”, instead she wanted a party where people could come as they are to reminisce and swap stories. A viewing for Ellen will be held on Sunday, September 29, from 7:00pm-9:00pm at Manning-Wheatley Funeral Chapel (510 N. 12th Ave.) On Monday September 30, at 10:00am family are invited to attend the closing of the casket and family prayer at the funeral home. At 11:00am please join us for a graveside service at Restlawn Memorial Gardens (2864 S. 5th Ave.) followed by a celebration of life at 12noon at the LDS church next to Stuart Park in Chubbuck where we will eat, visit, and laugh in a casual setting to honor the life of this wonderful woman
