Lava Hot Springs, Idaho - Elizabeth (Betty) Springsteen Gulick, 92, of Lava Hot Springs, Idaho passed away Sunday, morning April 26, 2009 at Whispering Pines Assisted Living Center in Chubbuck, Idaho from causes incident to age.

She was born June 28, 1916 in Lava Hot Springs, Idaho to Robert and Elizabeth Jane (Bessie) Quackenbush Springsteen. She was the second of five children.

Upon the death of her mother in 1924 she and her two sisters were taken to New Jersey and New York to live with relatives, the two boys were raised in Lava Hot Springs: all five children were separated. She was raised by her Aunt Sadie and Uncle Sid Crouter, along with their two children Sid and Betty. (They were Bett and Betty) She left school at the age of 16 to help her aunt and uncle and to help support her little sister Lois. In 1964 she did complete her education and earned her GED. She worked at Avon Products in Suffern, N.Y. on the production line, where she met her husband Andy, They were married August 4, 1940 at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Catholic Church, Tuxedo Park, N.Y.. She continued working at Avon until their first child Andrew was born. Andy passed away October 2, 1993.

She was a member of Our Lady Of Lourdes Catholic Church South Bannock County Historical Center, Lava Lioness and the Lava Senior Citizens, all in Lava Hot Springs. She was also a member of the American Legion Auxiliary, and the N.Y. State Employees Union (AFSCME) as she had worked for the Ramapo, N.Y. School District as a cafeteria manager. She retired in 1976 and they moved to Lava Hot Springs. They traveled back and forth to New York every year until Andy became too ill to travel... however they did fly back in 1990 for their Fiftieth Anniversary.

She dearly loved her kids, grandkids and great-grandkids. She is survived by her son and daughter-in-law Andrew and Arlene Gulick, The Villages, Florida; and their children: Andrew Jr. and his wife Reagan, Michael and Leah, and Robert John; son and daughter-in-law James and Kim Gulick, Monroe, New York: and their children James Jr. Drew and his wife Lauren, and Amy and daughter and son-in-law Mary and Fred Hinz, Lava Hot Springs, Idaho; their children, Fred and his wife Kimberly, daughters, Karina and Karalee, Cindy and her son Tyson, and Brian and his fiance'Allison Richard; her brother Willis Ramsey and his wife Vicki, and sisters-in-law Mary Buckley and Ruby Springsteen and numerous nieces and nephews.

Elizabeth was preceded in death by her parents, a brother Robert,sisters, Lois Crowell and Naomi Nastvogel.

In lieu of flowers please make a donation to Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church, South Bannock County Historical Center or The Lava Senior Citizens Center all in Lava Hot Springs. Betty's family wishes to thank everyone at Whispering Pines for the loving care given to Betty for the past 2 years and also the caregivers at Creekside Home Health and Hospice. Thank You.

Funeral services will be held Wednesday, April 29, 2009 at 11:00 a.m. at Our Lady Of Lourdes Catholic Church (132 S. 1st) in Lava Hot Springs, with Father John Worster as celebrant. There will be a Rosary/Vigil service Tuesday evening April 28th at 6:30 p.m. at Our Lady Of Lourdes Catholic Church followed by a visitation for family and friends until 8:00 p.m.. The family will also meet with friends one hour prior to services on Wednesday at the church. Interment will be in the Lava Hot Springs Cemetery.
