Pocatello- Dorothy Haynes Rarick, 89, formerly of Burley, Idaho, passed away Thursday, March 10, 2011 at Pocatello Care & Rehabilitation Center.
She was born January 7, 1922, in Rock Creek, Idaho, the fifth of six children born to William Anthony Haynes and Blythe Stricker Haynes. She grew up in the Rock Creek area. Her grandparents were early Idaho pioneers Herman and Lucy Stricker.
On September 2, 1939, Dorothy married Piner "Pete" McLane Rarick. After Pete and Dorothy were married, they farmed in Kimberly, Hansen, Wendell, Tuttle, Bell Rapids, South of Burley and Milner. At one point, they lived in the Rock Creek Store when their children were young. Dorothy was a wonderful cook who loved to gather her family for Sunday dinners or a picnic. She had a deep love for animals of all kinds. When she was a young girl, she trained her dog Spot to ride on the back of her horse. She even rescued a baby magpie and trained it to speak to her grandchildren's delight. Dorothy and Pete were blessed with three children, Colleen, Shirley and Phillip. The past several years Dorothy lived with her daughter Shirley in Pocatello, who generously cared for her in her final years.
Dorothy is survived by her children, Colleen Schutte of Twin Falls, Idaho; Shirley (Kenneth) Peterson of Pocatello; daughter-in-law Juanita Rarick; She is also survived by her youngest sister, Shirley Pucket of Kimberly; 10 grandchildren; 13 great grandchildren; 11 great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband "Pete", her son Phillip; her parents Bill and Blythe; her brothers Clifton, Maurice and her sisters, Norma, Lucille.
Graveside services will be held Friday, March 18, 2011 at Sunset Memorial Park in Twin Falls, Idaho at 2:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers the family ask that a donation be made in Dorothy's name to the Friends of Stricker, Inc. P.O. Box 2218, Twin Falls, Idaho 83303-2218. Funeral arrangements are under the care of Manning-Wheatley Funeral Chapel, 510 N. 12th Ave.
