Lava Hot Springs, Idaho - Our loving wife, mother and grandmother, Dorene L. Bailey, 80, passed away Wednesday, January 11, 2012 following an extended illness at a care center in Pocatello with her family by her side.
She was born July 20, 1931, in Topaz, Idaho, a daughter of Gerald LeRoy and Sarah Swainston Lewis. She attended schools in Lava Hot Springs and graduated from Lava Hot Springs High School, Class of 1949. She worked for Utah Power & Light Company for 12 years as Senior Accounting Clerk in the Lava Hot Springs office retiring in 1983.
She married Leon Gates and they were later divorced. On May 18, 1979, she married Raymond E. Bailey in the Logan, Utah L.D.S. Temple. They continued to make their home in Lava Hot Springs.
Shortly following her retirement, she and Raymond served a mission for the L.D.S. Church to South Africa. Dorene was always active in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. She served as Relief Society President, in the Young Women's, Primary and many other church callings. She enjoyed camping, gardening, canning and quilting. She also was a very good cook. They also enjoyed traveling and visited the Holy Land as well as Germany where their son Earl was stationed in the Army.
Her greatest joy was her children and grandchildren. She will be greatly missed by her family and friends.
She is survived by her loving husband, Raymond E. Bailey, 2 sons, David (Deborah) Gates, Orem, Utah; Bruce Gates, Newton, Utah; step-son, Earl (Sherry) Bailey, Roswell, New Mexico; 2 daughters, DeLayne (Michael) Henderson, Idaho Falls, Idaho; Rachelle (Richard) Hollinger, Rexburg, Idaho; step-daughters, LaRae (Theron) Weston, Meadowville, Utah; Marlene (Jerry) Humpherys , Dingle, Idaho. 29 grandchildren and 45 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, 2 brothers, 2 sisters, a grandson and a step son-in-law.
Funeral services will be held Monday, January 16, 2012 at 11:00 a.m. at the Lava Hot Springs L.D.S. Ward Chapel with Michael Waite, Bishop's Counselor, officiating. The family will receive friends this evening, Sunday, from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at the Lava Ward Chapel and Monday from 10:00 to 10:45 a.m. at the church.
Interment will be in the Dingle Cemetery (South of Montpelier) at 3:00 p.m.. Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Manning-Wheatley Funeral Chapel, 510 N. 12th Ave,
