Don Lee Morgan was born on July 5, 1935 to Bertha R. and Donnelly A. Morgan. Later Evelyn and Karen were born to complete the family. Bertha and Donnelly divorced. She later married Roy Bess.
Growing up Don loved hunting and fishing and became an avid outdoorsman. Don’s father worked for Union Pacific Railroad. When Don was 16 years old, he followed in his fathers footsteps and got an after school job with the railroad. Don kept working for Union Pacific for 48 years until his retirement.
After Don graduated from Pocatello High School he joined the National Guard and in 1954 married his high school sweetheart Beverly J. Hitchens. They had three children; Wendy, Russell, and Clint. Don and Bev divorced in 1977 but remained on good terms throughout their lives.
Don bought a RV and traveled whenever he could to play golf and see the America’s. During these years he met and Lois A Nimtz and they married in Nevada in 1979, they divorced in 1991. In 1996 he married Shirley R. Luduc in Pocatello and they divorced in 1999. In 2000 Don married Teresa P. Schemel in California, they divorced in 2002. On Nov 11, 2005 Don Married Phyllis N. Clement. I guess the 5th time was the charm because Don & Phyllis remained happily married for 15 years until his death.
Don’s grown children & extended family live in the Seattle area. Each year Don & Phyllis take RV trips there to visit with them, celebrate Don’s Birthday and have family gatherings. Phyllis’s grown children, Don’s sister, and many extended family members of both Don & Phyllis reside in Southeast Idaho. Our families blended and became one over the years.
Our home family included Little Lacey Bear, our 12 year old Westie dog. We all enjoyed being at home and eating Don’s good cooking. Lacey was Don’s partner, watching the political channels every day on TV. RV’ing and spending winters in Southern California was fun for us too. Don was also a member of the Pocatello Elks Club for 47 years, going to coffee every week-day and dinners on Friday nights.
Don is survived by his wife-Phyllis, daughter – Wendy, son - Russell, son - Clint (Janee), and grandson Talon (all Morgan last name). He is also survived by his sister -Evelyn Chapman, stepson - Todd (Tiare) Clement, stepdaughter - Cindy Lockhart; and extended family. Don was preceded in death by his Mother, Bertha; Father Donnelly; Stepfather Roy Bess; and sister, Karen Bagby.
Don was in the Monte Vista Covid Unit because he was positive for Covid 19, he also had strokes and Hodgkin’s Lymphoma. Because of Covid restrictions our family could not be with him as his condition weakened and he passed away on December 29, 2020. We were able to see him through his window and on video calls. Thank you to the Monte Vista staff and Heather of Encompass Hospice for all their loving care of Don.
