Dawson M. Gunter, 15, of McCammon, Idaho passed away Tuesday, Nov 10, 2020. Dawson was born November 30, 2004 in Pocatello, Idaho to Russell Vance and Natalie Hall (deceased) Gunter. He was the second of three sons. He attended schools at Mountain View Elementary in McCammon, Marsh Valley Middle School at Arimo, and was currently a sophomore at Marsh Valley High School.
Dawson was an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. He honored his priesthood and was known for his willing service to others, young and old. He loved the outdoors, all aspects; camping, hunting especially shooting an elk that scored a little higher than his older brothers, fishing, horses, skiing etc. He achieved the rank of Eagle Scout in February 2020.
Dawson loved sports and began early in his youth soccer, baseball, wrestling, and football. His 7th grade football team returned from a national tournament in Las Vegas as national champions. In 8th grade Dawson’s focus turned to Jr. High and High School Rodeo. First as a chute dogger and then his freshman year of high school as a steer wrestler. In June of this year he qualified for the Idaho State Finals Rodeo in the steer wrestling event.
Dawson was a dynamic young man with many talents. He was loved by all who knew him.
He is survived by his parents, Russell and Hallie Gunter, his brothers Roger and Mitchell Gunter, his sisters Cala (Cole) Irick and MaKayda Andersen. Also, Grandparents Martell and Jill Gunter of McCammon, Tab and Karen Mendenhall of Pocatello, and Cody Tedford of Monteview. He was preceded in death by his mother Natalie, Grandfathers Max Hall and Robert Telford and cousin Ryker Zane Marley and Marc Telford uncle.
Funeral Services will be held at 11am Monday, November 16th at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints Stake Center in McCammon, Idaho. No visitation is planned. Burial will be at the Norton Cemetery in McCammon Idaho.
