Middleton, Idaho - Cyril Jens Bloomquist, 83, longtime resident of Pocatello, passed away early Tuesday, September 9, 2008 at the home of his son in Middleton(where he had resided for the past 11 months) following an extended illness. He was born October 17, 1924 in Pocatello, a son of John Albert and Mary Ann Anderson Bloomquist. In his youth he attended schools in Pocatello, including Emerson Elementary, Franklin Jr. High and Pocatello High School.
He joined the U.S. Navy right out of high school and was assigned to the Seabee's construction battalion and served in the Asiatic-Pacific theater. Following the war he worked at the Naval Ordinance Plant for several years. On October 14, 1960 he married LoRee B. Wilson. They later divorced. After working at the NOP he went to work for the U.S. Postal Service where he worked as a postal clerk for over 25 years before he retired. He was a member of the L.D.S. Church where he served faithfully for many years as a home teacher. He loved fishing, reading and watching TV.
He is survived by 2 sons, Jim R. Bloomquist, Junction Cap, Montana; Fred (Rachel) Bloomquist, Middleton, Idaho; 2 daughters, Claranne (Jim) Howard, Winsted, CT.. Mary Fitzgerald, Junction Cap, Montana; 14 grandchildren and 3 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, 4 sisters and 6 brothers.
Funeral services will be held today, Thursday, September 11, 2008 at 12 noon at the Pocatello L.D.S. Ninth Ward (W. Quinn Rd. & Hawthorne Rd.) with Bishop Brian Cheney, officiating. The family will receive friends today from 11:00 to 11:45 a.m. at the church. Interment will be at the Rigby, Idaho Pioneer Cemetery at 3:00 p.m.with military rites provided by the Rigby, Idaho VFW Post 1004. Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Manning-Wheatley Funeral Chapel, 510 N. 12th Ave..
