Burgess Dale Newby, 66, passed away peacefully surrounded by his family on Saturday, May 18, 2013, due to complications of MS.
He was born January 31, 1947 in St. Anthony, Idaho, to Agnes Mae Hathaway and George William Newby. Burgess moved to Pocatello, Idaho when he was very young. He attended school at Washington Elementary, Irving Junior High, and graduated in 1965 from Highland High School. He was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints and had a great love of the gospel. As a young man he served a mission in the Eastern Atlantic States. Burgess married the love of his life, Christine Clark, on July 25, 1969 in the Idaho Falls Temple. They were blessed with 5 wonderful children and 11 grandchildren who were the light of his life.
He had a great love for his country and served proudly in the Idaho National Guard, Blackfoot Unit, for six years. He was selected as Soldier of the Year from his unit in 1975. He attended Idaho State University and received a bachelor of business administration degree. He always had a thirst for knowledge and continued his education his whole life. He loved spending time with his family, traveling, and fishing. When physical activities became too challenging in recent years, he found enjoyment in collecting coins and knives.
Burgess was a hard worker and was employed as an insurance adjuster until his illness forced him to retire. In 2007, he was diagnosed with MS and faced every challenge with great faith and a positive attitude. In spite of the pain he was always happy. A special thank you to all his angel caregivers with Access Home Health & Hospice, especially Kathy who cared for him daily.
Burgess was preceded in death by his parents; his son, Kevin; his brothers, Tom and Jed Newby; his sister, Norma Jensen; and his mother-in-law, Bernice Clark.
He is survived by his wife, Christine; son, Stephen Newby of Pocatello; daughters, Michelle (Kevin) Denny of Anchorage, AK, Jeanette (David) Corona of Pocatello, and Lisa (Christopher) Wehrli of Riverside, ID; brothers, Jim Newby of Blackfoot, Idaho and Irvin (Betty) Newby of North Carolina; sisters, Patricia (Terry) Kwok of Boise, Idaho and Judy Batts of Pocatello; father-in-law, Stephen (Georgiann) Clark; 11 grandchildren; and his constant faithful dog, Zeek.
