Pocatello - Barbara Rose Deck, 83, longtime resident of Pocatello, passed away early Sunday, July 11, 2010 at the Idaho State Veterans Home following an extended illness.
She was born August 9, 1926 in Long Beach, California a daughter of Robert and Ruth Campbell Drayton. She attended schools in Long Beach and was working at the USO when she met her future husband Luther Murray Deck who was serving during World War II. They were married November 3, 1945 in Glendale, California. Following Luther's discharge from active duty they moved to Pocatello where she lived the rest of her life. She worked as a seamstress for years mending clothes and other things for people in the area. She worked in housekeeping (linen service) at Bannock Memorial Hospital (PMC) for many years. She was a member of TOPS weight loss club. She also belonged to the VFW and American Legion Auxiliary and the Railroad Road and Gun Club. She very much enjoyed attending the Mountain men/Black Powder Rendezvous. She will be greatly missed by her family and friends.
She is survived by a son. Michael (Wyoma) Deck, Pocatello, Idaho; 6 grandchildren and 4 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband Luther Deck (December 7, 1992), parents, a daughter Roberta, 2 sisters and son Murray Deck.
Graveside funeral services will be held Wednesday, July 14, 2010 at 11:00 a.m. in Mountainview Cemetery (Section 44 East). The family will receive friends on Wednesday, from 10:00 to 10:45 a.m. at Manning-Wheatley Funeral Chapel, 510 N. 12th Ave.. Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Manning-Wheatley Funeral Chapel.
