Pocatello- Anita "Annie" Jessie Gallegos, 81, of Pocatello passed away Friday, March 13, 2009 at a local medical center following an illness. She was born November 23, 1927 in Baird, Nebraska, the daughter of Juan and Maria Santillanes Lucero.
Annie's family moved to Oregon when she was a young girl. She attended schools in Nyssa and Ontario, Oregon. She graduated from Ontario High School. She attended nursing school in Ontario. She worked in a nursing home where she met her husband Dan Gallegos. Annie and Dan were married on Sept. 19, 1947 in Ontario, Oregon. Dan passed away Nov. 29, 1992.
They moved to Durkee, Oregon, where Dan worked for the railroad. They then moved to Idaho Falls, Idaho to work in the potatoes. They also lived in Grace, Idaho for a short time. Annie and Dan assumed ownership of the Pilot House Cafe in 1966. They also had the Pilot House Mexican concession trailer in the Eastern Idaho State Fair and many other places for many years. She loved to travel and enjoyed having fun with her family.
Annie is survived by her six sons, Dan Gallegos Jr., Pocatello, Idaho; Roderick (Susan) Gallegos, Boise, Idaho; Randy K. Gallegos, Pocatello, Idaho; Jason D. (Tammy) Gallegos, Pocatello, Idaho; Richard M. (Carrie) Lucero, Bakersfield, California; Paul (Lynne) Lucero Jr.,Pocatello, Idaho; one daughter, Mitzi (Joe) Hartley Reed, Pocatello, Idaho. two brothers, John Lucero, Renton, Washington; Paul (Lupe) Lucero Sr. Nyssa, Oregon; two sisters, Edwardian Ramirez, Bremerton, Washington, Katherine (Fred) Gallegos, Blackfoot, Idaho; 15 grandchildren, 15 great grandchildren; Annie was preceded in death the her parents, beloved husband, son, Ricky Gallegos, 1 brother and 1 sister.
Funeral services will be held Thursday, March 19, 2009 at 11:00 a.m. at the Holy Spirit Catholic Church (7th & E. Wyeth) with Father Adrian Vasquez officiating. Interment will be in the Mountainview Cemetery. There will be a Vigil-Rosary service on Wednesday evening at 6:00 p.m. at Manning-Wheatley Funeral Chapel, 510 N. 12th Ave. followed by a visitation for family and friends until 9:00 p.m. The family will receive friends on Thursday from 9:30 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. at the funeral home before going to the church. Funeral arrangements are under the care of Manning-Wheatley Funeral Chapel.
