Amelia "Mimi" Josephine Thilmont passed away April 14, 2021, at her Pocatello, Idaho home with her beloved children by her side. She was a nurturing, unconditionally loving, and supportive mother to Lisa, Matt (Loretta), and Greg. She was also a devoted grandmother to her grandson, Maxwell.
Born in Newark, New Jersey, to Michael and Geraldine Klein, she was raised in San Francisco and Kansas City. She graduated from Shawnee Mission High School and attended the University of Kansas. In the mid-1960s, in Miami, she married James Thilmont and they eventually moved to Idaho Falls. They later settled and established themselves in Pocatello in the mid-1970s.
She was a highly successful businesswoman, with restaurant, automotive, and real estate ventures in Idaho, Montana, Wyoming, and Arizona. She was widely recognized by family, friends, colleagues, and associates for her excellent financial and accounting skills. She was an active member of the local community, notably with decades of leadership in Soroptimist International of Pocatello. She was especially known for helping to make hundreds of pans of lasagna over the years for the service organization's annual local fundraising dinner. In recent years, she was a member of the Idaho Chapter of P.E.O. Sisterhood. She was welcoming, generous, and insightful. Friends would frequently stop by for sound advice—which was usually given in her kitchen. Her door was was always open. And, of course, her sense of humor was legendary; she always had a funny quip at hand to brighten any situation.
She was a fierce bingo competitor and was often seen playing with her mother—"Nana"—at Shoshone-Bannock Casino. She enjoyed a fun game of Rummikub; loved playing bridge with her club; won many Scrabble matches; and completed uncountable crossword puzzles throughout her life. There is so much more that could be shared about her story, but there are not pages enough. She will be missed desperately. In lieu of flowers, Mimi has requested that friends donate to her favorite charity, St. Jude Children's Research Hospital.
On July 14, 2021, a Celebration of Life will be held in her honor. Details will be announced.
