Alonzo "Al" Allen

Alonzo (AL) Robert Allen, loving father, grandfather, great grandfather and great-great grandfather was called back to his Savior and Heavenly Father on January 20th 2018. He was born May 29, 1924 in Jamestown, New York to William Dexter Allen and Lila Ethel Breedon. He attended Jamestown High School. He joined the Army Air Corps in February 1943. He was transferred to the Army Air Base in Pocatello, Idaho where he met his wife of 72 year Wilma Phillips. He was shipped overseas and on D Day was sent to France and placed in the 9th Air Force Guard duty, 1296 Military Police unit in the 9th Air Force service command. He was discharges from Fort Dix, New Jersey in 1945.

He married Wilma Phillips, October 6th, 1945 at Jamestown, New York. Their marriage was solemnized in the Idaho Falls Temple May 29th, 1963. He was employed by, Idaho Portland Cement, Douglas Aircraft, and then went to school at Grimm’s Business College and graduated in accounting and taught there. He then went to work for Wycoff co. for over 23 years. He started his own business called “Al’s Wire Art”. He made wire creations all over the United States and overseas. He was very talented in his business. He would just look at anything and make it.

He was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints were he serve in many callings. He and his wife served many years on a sealing team at the Idaho Falls temple and served full time missions at the Family History Center and the Bishop’s Storehouse.

He was a disable World War II Veteran and life member of DAV Chapter #3 and VFW post 735 and served with the Pocatello Veteran Honor guard.

He is survived by his Three sons, daughter, 12 Grandchildren, 28 Great Grandchildren and 1 Great-great grandchild. He was preceded in Death by his wife Wilma, Parents and all of his Brothers and Sisters.

Services will be at 11am Sat. January 27, 2018 at Manning-Wheatley Funeral Chapel 510 N. 12th Ave.  A viewing will be at the funeral home from 7-9pm Friday January 26, 2018 and 1 hour prior to services on Saturday. Burial will be in the Inkom Cemetery with Military Rites provided by the Pocatello Veterans Honor Guard.

In lieu of Flowers, please make donations to the Pocatello Honor Guard or Primary Children Hospital.
