Lava Hot Springs - Our beloved wife, mother and grandmother, Alice May Avery Whitehead, 93, passed away Monday, January 27, 2014 at her home following an extended illness with loved ones by her side.

She was born December 4, 1920, in Lava Hot Springs, Idaho, a daughter of Jesse and Emma Bell Avery. She attended schools in Lava Hot Springs and graduated from Lava High School in 1940.

On December 13, 1941, she married Wallace K. "Wally" Whitehead in Topaz, Idaho . (West of Lava) Their marriage was later solemnized in the Logan, Utah L.D.S. Temple. She was active in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter -Day Saints and had served in the Relief Society Presidency, various positions in the Primary and any other areas where she was needed at anytime. She worked as custodian at the Lava Ward Chapel for many years as well as cleaning rooms at the Riverside Hotel for several years. She knew the value of hard work and was always willing and happy to help anyone in need. She will be greatly missed by her loving husband, family and many friends.

She is survived by her loving husband, Wallace "Wally" Whitehead, Lava Hot Springs, Idaho; a son Kent (Kim) Whitehead, Inkom, Idaho; 4 daughters, Shirlene (Jim) Brown, Lava Hot Springs, Idaho; Janet Smith (Bob Rish), Ucon, Idaho; Fay Whitehead, Pocatello, Idaho; Shanna Morrison, Lava Hot Springs, Idaho; 2 brothers, Dean (June) Avery, Bountiful, Utah; Floyd Avery, Sutter Creek, California. 11 grandchildren, 33 great-grandchildren and 23 great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, 5 brothers, 3sisters, 2 grandsons, Spencer and Frank and a great-grandson, Kasey.

Funeral services will be held Saturday, February 1, 2014 at 1:00 p.m. at the Lava Hot Springs L.D.S. Chapel with Bishop Lynn Stewart, officiating. The family will receive friends on Friday evening from 7:00 to 9:00 p.m. at the Lava Ward Chapel and on Saturday from 11:30 to 12:45 p.m. prior to services at the church.

Interment will be in the Lava Hot Springs Cemetery. Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Manning-Wheatley Funeral Chapel, 510 N. 12th Ave.. Online condolences may be sent to the Whitehead family at www.manningwheatleyfuneralchapel.com
