Aleen Donnetta Wellard Sorensen

Pocatello - Aleen Donnetta Wellard Sorensen, 90, of Pocatello, passed away Wednesday, June 18, 2014, at a local assisted living center from causes incident to age.

She was born November 6, 1923, in Teton City, Idaho, a daughter of Daniel Rockwell and Amy Mae Stewart Wellard. When she was young, her family moved to Pocatello. where she attended schools.

On September 7, 1945, she married Rece K. Sorensen in Elko, Nevada. They lived in Bancroft, Idaho, for a short time and also lived in Tyhee as Rece worked on his fathers dairy farm. Following retirement, they spent the winters in Arizona and also lived in Oregon for a time. They returned to this area living in Inkom for about 10 years before moving back to Pocatello.

She worked for the railroad during World War II. She also worked for Brennan Hardware in Pocatello, American Potato in Blackfoot and Ft. Hall. She enjoyed crocheting, crafts, reading and traveling.

She was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints and had served as a Den Mother in Cub Scouts.

She will be greatly missed by her loving family and dear friends. Aleen's family would like to extend a special thank you to the staff and caregivers at Ridgewind Assisted Living and Heritage Hospice for their tender and loving care of our mother.

She is survived by her loving husband, Rece K. Sorensen of Pocatello, Idaho; 2 sons, Les (Mae) Sorensen, Inkom, Idaho; Rod (Mary) Sorensen, Chubbuck, Idaho; 2 daughters, Margo Ann Stuart, Chubbuck, Idaho; JoLynn Mahaffey, Chubbuck, Idaho; 1 brother, Dan Wellard, Pocatello, Idaho; 6 sisters, Edna Smith, Bountiful, Utah; Joyce Warner, Pocatello, Idaho; Shirley Warner, Boise, Idaho; Doris Liljenquist, Pocatello, Idaho; Linda (Jerry) Chivers, Pocatello, Idaho; Larrie Tripp, Arimo, Idaho; son-in-law, Steven Knudsen, Pocatello, Idaho; 3 sisters-in-law, Neva Wellard, Pocatello, Idaho; Hilda Wellard, Pocatello, Idaho; LaVon Wellard, Yuma, Arizonia. 12 grandchildren; 20 great grandchildren; 2 great-great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, a daughter, Sidney Knudsen, a granddaughter, a great grandson and a granddaughter-in-law, 4 brothers, 1 sister, 2 sons-in-laws.

Funeral services will be held Monday, June 23, 2014 at 11:00 a.m. at the L.D.S. 9th (corner of Hawthorne Rd and W. Quinn) with President Greg Evans of the 53rd Branch officiating. The family will receive friends on Sunday evening June 22nd from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at Manning-Wheatley Funeral Chapel, 510 N. 12th Ave. and on Monday from 10:00 to 10:45 a.m. at the church prior to services.
