A. Dureen Jones, 85, passed away Wednesday, April 19, 2017 at the home of her daughter in Pingree, Idaho surrounded by her family.
Dureen was born on September, 2, 1931, in Soda Springs, Idaho, the daughter of Earnest LaVon Smith and Florice Bybee Smith. She was the only girl in a family of 7 brothers. She was raised in Alpine, Wyoming and Bancroft, Idaho.
It was in Bancroft where she graduated from high school. She got a job working as a waitress in the local cafe. One night as she was sweeping the floor, a young man approached her and offered to finish for her. When he finished, he asked her to the church dance on Saturday night. It was then that she fell in love with her eternal partner, Donald Jones. They were married on January 21, 1949, in Pocatello Idaho at the Alameda City Hall. They were later sealed in the Idaho Falls Temple.
Their son Hyrum Clair was born on August 9, 1950 and 2 months later moved to California. It was there that their daughter Terri Jayne was born on October 2, 1955. In May 1956, they moved back to Pocatello. Their daughter Rose Marie was then born on August 16, 1957.
She went to work for the School District #25 as a cafeteria worker and in 1971 became cafeteria manager. She retired after 32 years.
She taught Primary, Sunday School, and served in three Relief Society Ward Presidencies and one in the Stake. She spent two years as Girls Camp Director and 5 years as a Temple worker with her husband, Don. She also served as counselor in the night Relief Society and 25 years on the funeral committee.
She was preceded in death by her parents: her husband, Donald C. Jones: 4 brothers, Bill Smith, Dick Smith, Jean Smith, and Bob Smith; 2 great grandsons, Benson Byington, Eric Warren;
Dureen is survived by her children, Hyrum (Carmen) Jones; Terri (Wayne) Warren; Rose Jones; 12 grandchildren, 31 great grandchildren. 3 brothers, Blaine (Sharon) Smith; Dennis (Rita) Smith; L.D. (Mary) Smith.
Funeral services will be held Monday, April 24, 2017 at 11:00 a.m. at the Pocatello West Stake Center (Hawthorne & Eldredge) with Bishop Boyd Rowe officiating. The family will receive friends Sunday evening, April 23, from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at Manning-Wheatley Funeral Chapel, 510 N. 12th Ave. and on Monday one hour prior to services at the church. Interment will be in the Restlawn Memorial Gardens Cemetery. Funeral services are under the care of Manning-Wheatley Funeral Chapel.
In lieu of flowers, the family would like donations to go to the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation of Idaho, 100 East Idaho Street #200, Boise, Idaho 83712.
