Beulah Bell

Beulah Stuart Bell, 82, Verl's blue eyed blond sweetheart, mother, grandmother and sister, passed this life to be with parents, brothers, son-in-law and granddaughter, Thursday, March 28, 2007. What a grand reunion she is having, while she is finally able to place her mortal, frail body aside, and walk and dance with joy. Beulah died at the Hillcrest Care Facility, due to complications of an infection from knee surgery done in November, 2006.

She was born in Pocatello, Idaho to William and Melvina Pope Stuart, October 19, 1924. She was the youngest of three brothers and one sister, and was raised in the Tyhee area on the family farm, and has resided in Pocatello all of her life. She was a graduate of Poky High School, along with her sweetheart and spouse, Verl W. Bell. Their romance of two years, along with 65 years of marriage, culminates 67 years of love and happiness. They were married on October 24, 1942, and in the Logan Utah Temple, for all eternity, on May 4, 1943. After only one month of marriage, Verl left to serve in World War II. Over the next two years, Beulah was able to spend only short amounts of time with him.

The Bells were blessed with two girls and four boys (one set of twins). Her children agree, their best memories were coming home from Greenacres Elementary School to have lunch with their Mom. There was always the aroma of fresh-baked bread and polished wood floors. Mom was an accomplished story teller, and as a young girl learned to recite comical readings at gatherings for church and other functions. As we children grew up, she would recall some of these stories in bed at night and we would fall asleep giggling, with visions in our little minds.

Together the Bells owned and operated several local businesses, including Bell's Trucking, Bell's A&W Root Beer Stand and the 39 Flavors/Stinker Gas. Beulah served in many capacities in the LDS Church, including Drama Director, MIA,Sunday School and Primacy. She most recently was the visiting teacher supervisor. In the past, she enjoyed both snow and water skiing, as well as being at their Island Park Cabin, boating, snowmobiling and fishing. Most of all, her family, was the light of her life. Beulah faced many health challenges in the last 20 years, but she was a fighter and always bounced back. She had been called the wonder woman, bionic woman, and the miracle lady. Her wonderful care givers at Hillcrest, immediately fell in love with her. The family wishes to express our deep gratitude to all of the special people who served her. She loved each one of you. Our distress over the past few days was softened by the love and attention given to her, as well as to each of us as family members. We also wish to express thanks to the Alliance Home and Health Hospice and a special thanks to Dr. John Lassere.

She is survived by her loving husband, Verl; children, Connie (Cliff) Spears, Ted (Robyn) Bell, Ned (Michelle) Bell, Janet Moon (Bill) Cullumber, Leonard (Loa) Bell, all of Pocatello, and David (Rose and former daughter-in-law, Carla) Bell of Ogden, Utah; sister Dorothy (Erwin) Mangum, Pocatello; sisters-in-laws, Ada Stuart, Evelyn Stuart, Betty Stuart, Thelma Bell, Norma Bell; Verl's sister Dona (Doug) Trego; and 31 grandchildren and 50 great grandchildren; as well as many nieces, nephews and cousins.

She was preceded in death by: her parents, brothers, Claude, Joe and Lawrence; her son-in-law, Gary T. Moon; granddaughter, Kristie Lee Moon; Verl's parents, Leonard and Adna Byington Bell; brothers-in-laws, Gale Bell, Keith Bell, Sam Lish, Jim Kinney.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Monday, April 2, 2007 at the LDS Highland Third Ward Chapel, Butte & Hiskey, with Bishop Jim Lothspeich officiating. The family will receive friends Sunday evening from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at Manning-Wheatley Funeral Chapel, 510 N. 12th Ave. and on Monday from 10:00 to 10:45 a.m. at the church.
